Scientology and McCarthyism or How It Tries to Control Hollywood - Part 1

I came across something the other day that reminded me of how Scientology makes it's members follow the way of McCarthism when it comes to keeping each other in check. Thank God for people who speak out. That is what this post is about today.

Marc Headley, former Scientologist and author of the riviting Blown for Good – Behind the Iron Curtain of Scientology posted an important, interesting and insightful bit of information over at the Why We Protest forum.

What Headley aka blownforgood posted was a snapshot of Super Scientologist & character actor Jim Meskimen's Facebook showing him warning a few select Scientologists that they "have a guy named Marc Headley" on their facebook.

I was reminded that this is how Scientology really does things to stop free speech and perpetuate Scientology's Disconnection Policy. The cult usually assigns Scientology celebrities a handler or minder if they are big stars so they don't fly the coop. In Katie Holmes case, it is Jessica Feshbach Rodrigues. For the lesser known celebs' the cult can usually rely upon the most indoctrinated of members, like Jim Meskimen, to "Keep Scientology Working" by forwarning the flock to beware of the people whom the church may consider it's enemy. It's all part of Scientology's Fair Game practice.

In this case, Meskimen messed up. He picked the wrong guy to pull this baloney on because the reply is a kind but strong reminder to Meskimen that he should stop acting like an unamerican idiot and stop poking at others friendships like big brother. Let's hope he gets the point.

Now, rumor has it that the replyer , actor Tom McCafferty, worked in the past for Scientology celebrities like Tom Cruise. His military and acting history suggests he would have made a good one. I mean, look at this guy!

What I do know is that he's a former scientologist now, a talented actor and by his reply, well, he seems like he 'ain't afraid of nothin'. You can't beat that combination.

The Biggest Squirrel in Scientology is it's Leader

At least that's what many former members are stating.

According to Scientology Acronym/Terminology online reference, the term Squirrel, means:

A person who subverts Hubbard's "Tech"* by alteration. The name probably came from the idea of squirrels burying, or being associated with, nuts. In the cult jargon, Squirrel refers to someone who is too insane to follow Standard Tech. "Mayo was a Squirrel because he altered Source." (the Scientologists claimed.)

Little did they know that the leader himself was guilty of what he was accusing others of.

Even Katie Holmes seems confused by the situation, poor dear, but Miscavige knows he's been found out.

Current events: Exposing Scientology

This is a roundup of some current and recent events and informative and important news on the exposing of scientology's hate for it's critics. So much has happened that I will have to post what I can now and update it tomorrow.

I just finished watching a brilliant and factual latest video to hit YouTube exposing the church of scientology
Scientology Exposed PSA: Hyprocrisy

Dawn Olson's Glosslip.com has a story about it:
Modern Day Slavery Within The Church Of Scientology

James Packer quits church: SkyNews reports that the richest man in Scientology quits the cult.

Operation Stop Fair Game : On May 10th, thousands of Anonymous and not so anonymous critics of scientology, like Ex-CIA Operative Boris Korczak and Jason Beghe joined in with the old guard and new former members of scientology to protest Scientology's Fair Game policy and tactics. Hugh success!

On April 30th, media source Radar Online started what is now a series of reports about asbestos on the scientology cruise ship Freewinds:

Cancer on the Lido Deck: Scientology Cruise Ship Rife with Asbestos?

May 1: Cancer on the Lido Deck? Scientology Responds

May 6: Cancer on the Lido Deck: Clean Team Enters Scientology's SS Asbestos

Dawn at Glosslip followed up on May 7
Tom Cruise, Lisa Marie Presley Among Celebs Exposed To Cancer-Causing Asbestos From Negligent Church Of Scientology

LawyersAndSettlements.com writes about the church ship and the way asbestos can take up to 30 years to show up but when it does, it's a deadly stuation in most cases.

Give Me Back My Scientology Confessional Folders & Tapes!

Actor Jason Beghe wants his confessional and other scientology records, folders & tapes back. I want mine back, too. We are not alone in this desire. Why would Scientology want to keep records of us having told our most deepest and darkest thoughts of the past. to what was supposed to be a confidential counselor, when we don't belong to 'the church' anymore? As former members of the cult of Scientology, we are not unlike victims of the techniques described by Joost A. M. Meerloo in his excellent report called Rape Of The Mind

Beghe informed Operation Clambake Message Board aka Xenu.net that he wants all his folders back and that his request to the infamous Celebrity Center International was artfully ignored. So he wrote the Big Kahuna Cult leader David Miscavige and posted it.

You can read the letter here:
Letter to David Miscavige from Jason Beghe

Why would Beghe want thos records back? Why would I want mine back? Why would any former member want them back? Well, read the excellent Village Voice article by Tony Ortega
Former Scientologist Actor Wants His Confessional Files Back
'Jason Beghe accuses church of secretly taping Tom Cruise; writes a letter that Scientology won’t deliver' by Tony Ortega , April 29th, 2008 7:00 AM

There is no moral reason for the church to keep them, but keep them they do. I have been out for 12 years now but I invested 18 years of my life believing that L Ron Hubbard was teaching truth when it was all empty lies. The evolution of Scientology Celebrity Centers was planned by Hubbard many years before but thy needed a certain amount of credible & willing top celebrities to do all the media push. Tom Cruise came along and with others, Celebrity Centers rapidly grew. At one time, I was a member of the Celebrity Centers and treated like a celebrity because my husband was a "celebrity". Back in the 70's and 80's, the pressure was not on celebrities to push scientology but as the years went on and the membership of high end talent began to flow in, these newbies were sectioned off from the minor celebrities and had their sessions videotaped on a steady basis. I spent many of my years there during the days when they couldn't afford toilet paper, much less any video equiptment.

Although all scientologists were given the impression or told that the their secrets were confidential, many found out the hard way that scientology likes to keep the folders to use the contents as a tool to keeping the member from leaving or speaking up. So, the the evidence is overwhelming that confidentiality is just not true. For celebrities who have left the fold, like Nicole Kidman, the is a real fear that your private thoughts could wind up on the cover of The Enquirer or People Mag.

Celebrity artist former Scientologist OT VIII Michael Pattinson explains in explains how celebrities are treated and what happened to him after he left.

Thankfully, we have Jason Beghe broaching this important subject by asking for all the documentation of his life in Scientology to be returned to him. Will he get them? I woul;d hope so but he will have to go to court to force the issue. He should, however, know that there will be many others, including myself, who would join him in a class action law suit in order to get them back.

We were lied to. We were conned. It's a matter of dignity. Getting back as much of one's investment in the past as possible is what any victm want and we victims of Scientology are no exception.

Jason Beghe XenuTv Interview Highlights

This excellent 8 min video showing the highlights of the complete XenuTV interview of actor Jason Beghe by Mark Bunker was recently compiled by YouTube member svMilliways

What I like most about this is that it shows how much Jason Beghe knows about Scientology and how much he cares about those who are still members. Tom Cruise needs to listen to this.

Why Anonymous Protests against Scientology

Masked Protesters Target Church of Scientology; Excellent Video
Last Edited: Friday, 14 Mar 2008, 9:01 PM CDT
MyFox Kansas City

Foxnews in Kansas City provides excellent coverage of the situation between CoS and Anonymous and includes an important interview with Bernard Headley, whose now ex-wife joined the cult and put his kids to work in the church gulags, which made it near impossible for him to have any contact with them; Bernie talks about how he helped one* of his kids escape Scientology and how he has never given up and is still searching for his daughter Stephanie. Bernie's a real hero in my book!

Thanks to whoever did this show at Fox KC

* Marc Headley, who recently spoke up about how the Church of Scientology held fake auditions for the benefit of helping Tom Cruise find himself a wife. Katie Holmes was the winner in that contest.

Jenna Miscavige Hill, Niece of Scientology's leader, backs Cruise biography

Niece of Scientology's leader backs Cruise biography4 hours ago

PARIS (AFP) — The author of a controversial new biography on celebrity Scientologist Tom Cruise has found an unexpected new ally: the niece of Scientology's current leader, David Miscavige.

In an open letter to a senior Scientology official that has been widely posted on the Internet, Jenna Miscavige Hill described how her own family was broken apart by the movement's policies.

Hill's father is Ron Miscavige, the older brother of David Miscavige, the current leader of the Church of Scientology.

"Hell, if Scientology can't keep his family together -- then why on earth should anyone believe the church helps brings families together!" she wrote. [..]

It's terrific to see that this is getting some press coverage. The article below refers to Jenna Miscavige Hill, daughter of Elizabeth and Ron Miscavige, and the letter she wrote to church public relations spokesperson, Karen Pouw. After reading the lies Pouw wrote in defense of Scientology against Andrew Morton's Cruise biography, Jenna stepped up to the plate and called her on the carpet for lying about Scientology's Disconnection Policy and how it destroys families, including her own.

Scientology Disconnection Policy has been separating and destroying families for far too many years. It's a type of religious shunning. I know. During my 18 years in Scientology, I cut off family members because I really believed I was doing the right thing by Scientology. In retrospect, I was jaded and felt I had no choice. That's what happens when you are numb from being brainwashed for so long. Most of my family has forgiven me, but there are still a few people I have to find and apologize to for hurting them by severing ties because they didn't agree with Scientology.

Thank God I am FREE FROM SCIENTOLOGY!

Thank God, so is she! Way to go Jenna Miscavige Hill!

Scientology Questions From Anonymous

"Some honest questions scientologists need to ask themselves. Feel free to respond in comments" That's what this YouTube video says. It's an important message.

Scientology Questions from Anonymous

Well, I'm all for this video. The current situation is more than about a Tom Cruise video or menacing the Church of Scientology just because ther Anons feel it's way past payback time for all the dirty deeds CoS done to mankind.

It's about the members who are not being allow to question things - a necessary componient of the freedom to think for themself. I was once one of them, for many years. Asking why is a start. Kudos for Anonymous in Netherlands for posting this.

Fun with "Psychiatry: An Industry of Death" - A Scientology Propaganda Project

Fun at the Church of Scientology’s "Psychiatry: An Industry of Death" Museum!
by brian ( at catsandbeer.com )

Last month, author Brian's cousin Pete "came out to Los Angeles on a trip for work, and since then all he ever talks about is his visit to the Church of Scientology’s "Psychiatry: An Industry of Death" museum. Seriously, he won’t shut up about the thing." Priceless :)

Hubbard in the House -- the State House!

JEFFERSON CITY | The halls of the Capitol are pretty quiet on this Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday.

The rotunda, though, is jumping. A group called the Citizen Commission on Human Rights has packed the central space with no fewer than eight flat-panel TVs and 185 feet of six-foot-tall, full-color displays, all of them blasting the practice of psychiatry.

The exhibit’s title captures its subtlety: “Psychiatry: An Industry of Death.” [..]
(Yes, another priceless article. )

Nicole Kidman and her 'Confidential - Priest - Penitent Protected' Scientology Confessional Folders

I read a recent Defamer.com.au article
Scientologists Do Not Have Tapes Of Tom Making Nicole Call Him "Xenu" While Wearing Conor's Baseball Uniform

and I remembered something which I am surprised I had not thought of before, considering I'd been a brainwashed victim of the cult for 18 yrs:

"Confidential - Priest - Penitent Protected". How could I have forgotten that?

Well, anyway, as I explained to Defamer:

Scientology 'auditors; ( counselors ) ALWAYS write down what the 'preclear' or 'OT' says in a counseling session. Always. To do otherwise is a violation of their technology. So everything that Tom and Nicole have ever said in a session are recorded by hand by the counselor/ auditor.

There are taped sessions but that is usually done for monitoring the skills of the auditor- in training. Could they have taped Nicole's sessions? Well, nothing would surprise me when it comes to how the church treats it's celebrities. But certainly there were notes taken of all she'd ever spoken in those sessions.

I, personally, want my folders back and I bet Nicole would want them back too. We were convinced that we were dealing with a real church who had real principles and that the 'confessions' were sacred. Even the folders stated " Confidential- Priest-Penitent Protected"
and we fringe Catholics who joined Scientology actually believed that the session information was held sacred and confidential like a confession is in the catholic church! What fools we were. Nicole had good reason to fear that, as do so many other former scientologists.

One day there will be a class action suit brought against the 'church' to gather up and return all the folders of all the written notes from each person's sessions but until that day, believe me when I say she had something to fear. More than a few ex-members have had dirty laundry or the appearance of dirty laundry aired on the internet for criticising the church.

You can get more information on the Priest-Penitent privilage related to the keeping of "confessions"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clergy-penitent_privilege

Nicole, you are not alone. It was a con game. We were conned.

"The World's Largest Global Scam" is The Church of Scientology

Of the Tom Cruise Video, Lerma says "Scientology is the World's Largest Global Scam"

Arnie Lerma of Lermanet.com discusses "the video the Church of Scientology did not want you to see".

Here he's interviewed on January 16, 2008, by SKY tv UK, a UK Satellite TV broadcaster run by Rupert Murdoch, from the DC Fox News affiliate station about the bizzare claims Tom Cruise made in the video.

He says " Scientology is the World's Largest Global Scam. " " It's based on hypnosis and the propaganda techniques that built the Third Reich."

I was unable to catch the anchor's name but he's with Sky's 24 hour MOR news channel. This and other interviews about the Tom Cruise video played every 20 minutes round the clock, I suppose much to the dismay of the Church of Scientology:

Arnie Lerma has the distinct unofficial title of being Scientology's most persistent and effective ex-member critic on the internet and in the history of the church. No matter what the church has done to him to try and stop his efforts to inform the world about the 'con game' he calls Scientology, he's never given up.
He has helped thousands and thousands of people by helping make the internet a viable and accessable place to get the critical facts and information people need in order to know and understand the Church of Scientology.

Back in 1995 Scientology sued Lerma, his ISP: Digital Gateway, The Washington Post, and investigative journalists Richard Leiby and Marc Fisher. The lawsuit was filed against Lerma and his Internet service provider by the church's Religious Technology Center, (RTC), claiming copyright infringement and trade secret misappropriation. " In that case the "The Washington Post, et al were released from the suit when USDJ Leonie Brinkema ruled in a memorandum on Nov 28, 1995:
"When the RTC first approached the Court with its ex parte request for the seizure warrant and temporary restraining order, the dispute was presented as a straight-forward one under copyright and trade secret law. However, the Court is now convinced that the primary motivation of RTC in suing Lerma, DGS and The Post is to stifle criticism of Scientology in general and to harass its critics. As the increasingly vitriolic rhetoric of its briefs and oral argument now demonstrates, the RTC appears far more concerned about criticism of Scientology than vindication of its secrets."

(Memorandum Opinion of November 28, 1995, by U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema; Religious Technology Center v. Arnaldo Lerma, Washington Post, Mark Fisher, and Richard Leiby)

The Memorandum Opinion acknowledges what critics believe Scientology practices to this day: the "Fair Game" policy, a written directive by L. Ron Hubbard that encourages harassment of anyone who speaks out against the church.

In conclusion, the court awarded RTC the statutory minimum of $2,500 for five instances of non-willful copyright violation."

Lerma has researched Scientology for many years to determine how it was that he gave the organization 10 uears of his life, as so many others have in the promised hopes of becoming happy and godlike. You can find much of his research at Lermanet.com

Grateful thanks to youtube's quentinkrisp for getting the interviews up on the internet:

Cruise and the "PR purposes of a dangerous and totalitarian brainwashing organization"

There are many articles out this week about the German military's stance against Scientology and it's PR pusher, Tom Cruise.

Here is an exerpt from Reuters via one of the more respected German media outlets:

"MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: Berlin Politicians Attack Cruise, Scientology -
International - SPIEGEL ONLINE - News" June 26, 2007

Berlin Politicians Attack Cruise, Scientology
The German Defense Ministry has said it will not permit Tom Cruise to film scenes in a movie about a plot to kill Hitler at historical World War II sites in Berlin. The reason: Politicians don't want Germany to be seen as promoting the Scientology cult.

Germany's Defense Ministry has said it will ban the Hollywood makers of a film about a plot to kill Hitler from shooting scenes at military sites in Berlin because its heartthrob star, Tom Cruise, is a Scientologist. Filming is expected to start in July on "Valkyrie," a drama about a failed plot hatched by Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg to kill Hitler using a briefcase bomb. [..]

During a session on Friday in the Bundestag, Germany's parliament, the cult expert for the governing conservative Christian Democrats, Antje Blumenthal, said that Defense Minister Franz-Josef Jung told her "there was no question" about whether filming could take place at German facilities. [..]

[..] A Nazi-Like Organization?

But Blumenthal has remained undeterred in her campaign against the actor and the cult, whose beliefs are based on the science fiction writings of L. Ron Hubbard. "We have to present a united front against Scientology," she said. Blumenthal accused the organization of spreading views in the tradition of National Socialism - "and I find it, to say the least, odd that someone who represents this organization would be able to film at the site of a memorial to resistance against National Socialism of all places."

Any filming at Bendlerblock, she told Der Tagesspiegel, "would be public relations work done for this organization, and that's not the sort of thing we need to support, especially since Mr. Cruise misses no opportunity to promote Scientology."

A party spokesman for the Christian Democrats in the city of Berlin took the statement even further, telling the paper: "Resistance against the National Socialist dictatorship must not be abused for the PR purposes of a dangerous and totalitarian brainwashing organization like Scientology."

CNET & more on KEITH HENSON ......... The 'Tom Cruise' Missile Jokester Who Scientology Wants Jailed

"Scn is like HIV. Gets in there and screws up the immune system, perverts the law to its own ends. Forget government taking the lead role in bringing down scn, that task falls to you and me." --- Keith Henson

David Rice "Shy David") tells us:
"The sinister Scientology® business claimed it attacked Keith Henson because of "copyright violations." In reality, the reason is because Mr. Henson spoke the truth about Scientology Inc.'s crimes and human rights abuses. The business attacked Henson as a "warning" to others who would be so bold as to tell the truth about Scientology. This is called the "Monkey on a Stick" deterrent: one or two "monkeys" are selected from the crowd of critics, and harassed in front of them--- this is to cause the other critics to cease objecting to Scientology Inc.'s crimes and gross human rights abuses.

Before we get to the CNET article on Keith Henson, the 'Tom Cruise' Missile Jokester, it's important to know that the story of his fight for free speech and his flight to avoid persecution by the 'church' of scientology is something we can all benefit from reading up on.

"I know that taking a stand against Scientology is likely to subject me and my family to the same abuse Mr. Ward has experienced. But there comes a point where people of good will *must* stand up to criminals-- even to those who are experts in using the courts to harass." ---Keith Henson

CNET SPECIAL REPOST (FAIR USE) Published: February 5, 2007
'Tom Cruise' Missile Jokester Arrested
By Declan McCullagh
Staff Writer, CNET News.com

"A Silicon Valley figure who fled the country after being convicted in part because of a Usenet joke about Tom Cruise and Scientology has been arrested in Arizona.

Keith Henson, an engineer, writer and futurist, was arrested Friday in Prescott, Ariz., where he has been living for the past few years, and now faces extradition to California. Henson originally fled to Canada after the 2001 conviction.

Keith Henson
The misdemeanor conviction in California stems from a post that Henson made in the alt.religion.scientology Usenet newsgroup that joked about aiming a nuclear "Tom Cruise" missile at Scientologists, and Henson's picketing of the group's Golden Era Productions in Riverside, Calif.

Michael Kielsky, Henson's defense attorney, said Monday that his client will likely be released on Monday evening and is required to appear in court for a March 5 hearing.

Kielsky said that Henson was mistreated by police and jailers--including being told during the arrest that he had no right to an attorney and being held in solitary confinement in a poorly heated cell without adequate bedding. "My best information is that it's very political," he said. "They gave him an extra blanket but then an hour later they took it away--(this is) a 66-year-old man with a heart problem."

A message left with Sheila Polk, the Yavapai County Attorney, was not returned on Monday.

A brief flap that ensued over the amount of Henson's bond delayed the process. A judge initially set the amount at $7,500, but then increased it to $500,000 at the request of prosecutors, according to the Yavapai County Detention Center. After a telephone conference with the judge and attorneys on Monday afternoon, the bond was lowered to $5,000.

Henson's frequent encounters with Scientology, coupled with his lengthy resume of programming, electrical engineering and futurist accomplishments, have made him something of a legal cause celebre in technology circles.

Supporters have created a "Free Keith Henson" blog, posted a note from his wife, Arel Lucas, and are asking for donations to a legal defense fund. The fund was set up by members of the Extropy Institute, a nonprofit group that has been a gathering point for futurists and technologists since 1991.

Convicted of making threat to interfere with religion Henson was convicted in 2001 under a California law (Sec. 422.6) that criminalizes any threat to interfere with someone else's "free exercise" of religion. One Usenet post that was introduced at his trial included jokes about sending a "Tom Cruise" missile against a Scientology compound (the actor is a prominent Scientologist). Picketing Scientology buildings and other "odd behavior" were also part of the charges, Deputy District Attorney Robert Schwarz said at the time.

Jeanne Roy, a deputy district attorney in Riverside County, Calif., said that the next step for her office is to see whether Henson shows up for his March 5 court date. If he does not, an Arizona warrant would be issued for his arrest. If he does, Roy said, another court date would be set to deal with extradition through a process known as a governor's warrant.

"That won't happen by March 5," Roy said. "It's usually a 30- to 90-day process, depending on the state, for that paperwork." If extradited to California, she said, Henson faces a year in jail or six months in jail and 3 years of probation.

When asked whether it's common for California to try to extradite someone on a misdemeanor conviction, Roy said: "It's not common, but it's not unusual either. We do it in some cases."

Henson's family is concerned about what might happen to him in jail. "The Scientologists have made death threats to my father," his daughter Amber Henson said in an e-mail message to CNET News.com. "My mom and I are going to do everything possible to make sure that they are not able to silently do away with him." (The Church of Scientology could not immediately be reached for comment on Monday.)

Before his misdemeanor conviction, Henson had become embroiled in a civil lawsuit that Scientology filed against him.

It arose out of supposedly secret scriptures written by L. Ron Hubbard, the late science fiction author and founder of Scientology, which describe a galactic overlord named Xenu who is allegedly the source of all human evil. Since the early 1990s, Scientology has made a concerted effort to remove those documents from the Internet--including suing Henson--but they finally found a permanent legal home in the Netherlands.

Scientology's tactics, which critics say include cult-like retention practices and intimidation, have drawn fire in the past. A Time magazine cover story, for instance, concluded that "Scientology poses as a religion but really is a ruthless global scam." Xenu and Cruise were also satirized in a November 2005 episode of South Park."

NB:It's sure nice to see good writers writing about good people like Keith Henson.
